Why memory foam works so well in an RV

Most RV mattresses are a single block of firm polyurethane foam with almost no pressure relief. Memory foam solves that by conforming to your body, spreading weight across the surface, and taking the pressure off hips and shoulders. It also absorbs motion, which matters when two people share a short queen and one gets up early for the campground bathhouse.

Heat is the usual objection, and it is fair; an RV in July is warm before you get in bed. That is why LOUNJ uses gel-infused open-cell memory foam rather than dense closed-cell foam. Air moves through it, gel draws heat away, and the topper sleeps noticeably cooler than the budget toppers sold at RV dealers. It is CertiPUR-US certified, fiberglass free, and made without fire-retardant sprays.

Choosing between the two memory foam RV toppers

The RV Mattress Topper is bare gel memory foam in 2, 3, or 4 inches. Go with it if you want the thickest option, the lowest weight, or the simplest install under a fitted sheet. It is a good match for fixed beds that rarely move.

The RV Topper 2.0 comes in 2 or 3 inches with a washable cover and corner straps that hold it to mattresses from 6 to 16 inches deep. Choose it for beds that lift for under-bed storage, slide-out beds, dinette conversions, and any rig with kids or pets. Weekend campers usually prefer 3 inches; full-timers and anyone with a very hard stock mattress often go to 4 inches in the bare topper, while bunk sleepers stick to 2 inches to preserve headroom.

RV sizes, custom cuts, and buying factory direct

Both memory foam RV toppers are cut in 12 sizes: Queen Short 60×75, Queen 59×79, RV King 72×80, King Short 72×75, Full 53×75, 3/4 Full Short 48×75, and bunk sizes 28×75, 28×73, 30×75, 30×80, 35×75, and 35×79. Measure the mattress, not the platform, and compare against these before you order. Odd sizes and truck sleeper or boat berths can be handled through a custom topper quote.

LOUNJ is a family-owned foam factory in Phoenix, in business since 2018. We pour, cut, and package our own foam, so there is no middleman markup. Orders ship compressed with free FedEx Ground delivery to the lower 48, usually same or next business day, backed by a 30-night trial with free returns and a 5-year warranty.

Questions about memory foam rv mattress toppers

Does a memory foam RV topper get too hot in summer?

Any bedding feels warm in a hot RV, but the foam itself makes a real difference. LOUNJ uses gel-infused open-cell memory foam that allows airflow and pulls heat away from the body, unlike the closed-cell foam in many camper toppers. Pair it with a breathable sheet and run the vent fan and most sleepers stay comfortable.

Can I use a residential queen topper on a short queen RV bed?

You can, but it will be five inches too long and will fold up at the foot or push against the wall. That creates a lump and wears the foam. Our short queen topper is cut to 60×75 to fit the bed exactly. If you already own a residential topper, trimming it with an electric carving knife is possible but rarely clean.

How thick should a memory foam RV mattress topper be?

Three inches is the best choice for most RV beds; it adds real comfort to a firm stock mattress without much added height. Two inches is right for bunks and cab-overs with limited clearance. Four inches is worth it only when the stock mattress is very hard and you have plenty of room above the bed.

Will the topper stay put on a bed that lifts for storage?

The bare RV Mattress Topper relies on friction and the fitted sheet, which is usually enough for a fixed bed but can shift on a lifting platform. The RV Topper 2.0 has corner straps that wrap under the mattress and hold the topper in place as the bed lifts and lowers, which is why we recommend it for storage-access beds.

Is the foam safe to sleep on in a small enclosed space?

Yes. LOUNJ memory foam is CertiPUR-US certified for low VOC emissions, contains no fiberglass, and is made without fire-retardant chemical sprays. Because we sun-bake the foam in Arizona before shipping, there is very little off-gassing smell. Unroll the topper and let the RV air out for a day and any faint new-foam scent will be gone.

How long does the topper take to expand after shipping?

The topper arrives compressed and rolled. Unroll it on the RV mattress and give it 24 to 48 hours to fully decompress; most of the expansion happens in the first few hours. In a cold RV it can take a little longer, so if you are prepping for a trip, set it up a couple of days ahead.
