Full, double, and Full XL

Full and double are the same size: 54 inches wide and 75 inches long, 16 inches wider than a twin and the same length. It is the smallest size two adults can share, and it is the standard for guest rooms, teens, and sofa beds. Our full topper is cut to 54 x 75.

Full XL is less common but worth knowing about: 80 inches long, the same as a queen, for tall sleepers who do not have room for a wider bed. We cut Full XL toppers at 53 x 80, which sits flush on the 53 and 54 inch wide Full XL mattresses on the market. If your full mattress is an older or antique size, or a sofa bed with an odd length like 54 x 72, we will cut a custom size in half-inch increments.

Thickness for one sleeper or two

A full is 27 inches per person when shared, which is narrower than a twin each. That makes the topper’s motion isolation and edge feel more important than on a bigger bed. Here is how we steer full-size shoppers:

• 2 inch: a lighter change for a single sleeper under 130 pounds, a sofa bed that must fold, or a full bed with a low headboard.
• 3 inch: the default for a single adult or a couple. Gel memory foam at 3 inches absorbs motion so one sleeper turning does not bounce the other, and the Gel 2.0 version adds a washable cover that guest beds need.
• 4 inch: for a heavier side sleeper or a full mattress that has worn out on top.

Couples who differ a lot in weight or feel are usually better served by moving up to a queen or a split setup; on a full, both sleepers share one topper.

Every design, in full

All of our toppers come in 54 x 75. The bare Gel Mattress Topper is the most affordable. The Firm Mattress Topper is the fix for a full mattress that sags in the middle from two sleepers rolling together. The Tri-Zone adds zoned support under the hips with a bamboo cover. Talalay latex in 2 or 3 inch, 24 or 28 ILD, is quoted in 1-2 business days and is the cooler choice for two people sharing a small bed. All memory foam is poured in Phoenix, CertiPUR-US certified, and free of fiberglass and fire-retardant sprays.

Sheets, sofa beds, and setup

A 2 or 3 inch full topper fits under most full fitted sheets with 15 inch pockets on a 10 to 12 inch mattress; go deep-pocket for 4 inches. Full XL sheets are sold separately from full and are harder to find, so if you order a Full XL topper, plan the sheets at the same time. On a sofa bed, 2 inches usually folds inside the mechanism; 3 inches often has to come off before the bed closes.

A full topper is a one-person lift in 2 or 3 inch memory foam and a two-person job in 4 inch or in latex. It ships compressed by FedEx Ground, free to the lower 48, and needs 24-48 hours to decompress after unrolling.
