A standard queen mattress is 60 x 80 inches, and that is the size our queen topper is cut to. But queen is also the size with the most variants, and ordering the wrong one is the most common fit mistake we see. Short queen, 60 x 75, is the RV and camper size; we make it as a stock short queen topper. Olympic queen (also called expanded queen), 66 x 80, is 6 inches wider than standard. California queen, 60 x 84, is 4 inches longer. Both of those are custom cuts for us, quoted in 1-2 business days at no premium over standard.

Thickness for a shared queen
Most queens are shared, and a topper has to work for both people. Our general guidance: 2 inches for lighter sleepers, back and stomach sleepers, or a subtle change; 3 inches for most adults between 130 and 230 pounds and for side sleepers; 4 inches for heavier side sleepers or a mattress that has worn out on top. When two sleepers disagree, 3 inches is the compromise that usually satisfies both.
Motion transfer matters more on a queen than on a king, because there is less room. Gel memory foam absorbs motion well at 3 inches, so a partner who tosses does not wake you. If one of you sleeps hot and the other does not, Talalay latex is the material that suits both; if the gap is wider than that, look at a split king for your next bed.

Sheets, headboards, and platform beds
Queen fitted sheets sold today usually have 14 to 16 inch pockets. A 2 or 3 inch topper on a 10 to 12 inch mattress fits under a 15 inch pocket; a 4 inch topper, or a 14 inch mattress, needs an 18 inch deep-pocket set or a separate topper cover. On a platform bed with a low headboard, 4 inches of topper can leave the headboard looking short; 2 or 3 inches keeps the proportions. On a high bed with a footboard, a thicker topper makes the step up taller too.

A 2 or 3 inch queen memory foam topper is a comfortable one-person lift. The 4 inch is better with two, more for its floppiness than its weight, and a queen Talalay latex topper is a two-person job. What size is a queen mattress topper?

Will a queen topper fit a short queen RV mattress?
Not well; it will hang 5 inches past the foot of a 60 x 75 short queen. We make a stock short queen topper in 60 x 75, plus an RV queen at 59 x 79, so order the RV size instead of trimming a standard queen.
Do I need deep pocket sheets for a queen topper?
With a 2 or 3 inch topper on a 10 to 12 inch mattress, queen sheets with 15 inch pockets will reach. With a 4 inch topper, or a mattress of 14 inches or more, buy 18 inch deep-pocket sheets or use a separate topper cover.
Does a queen topper reduce motion transfer?
Gel memory foam is very good at it. At 3 inches it absorbs a partner's movement so you feel less bounce than on the bare mattress, especially on an innerspring. Talalay latex isolates motion less than memory foam but still better than a spring pillow top.
How heavy is a queen mattress topper?
A 2 or 3 inch gel memory foam queen is an easy one-person lift. The 4 inch is manageable alone but easier with two because the foam is floppy. A queen Talalay latex topper is noticeably heavier and should be moved by two people.
