Car camping, one page for every model

Tesla Mattress Toppers for Model Y, Model 3, Model X and Cybertruck

A Tesla mattress topper made of real foam, not an inflatable, is the difference between a night in Camp Mode and a good night in Camp Mode. We cut gel memory foam and Talalay latex to the flat-folded cargo floor of each model in our Phoenix factory, in one piece or split so it stores in the trunk well or the frunk. Pick your model below for exact dimensions and fit notes.

Foam that fits your Tesla

Why foam instead of an air mattress

Most Tesla camping products are inflatable or a thin tri-fold pad. Air mattresses leak, sag overnight as the cabin cools, need a pump that draws from the 12V outlet, and sleep cold because the air inside them matches the outside temperature. Tri-fold pads are usually 2 inches of low-density foam with hinges you can feel through your hip.

A solid foam Tesla mattress does none of that. Three inches of gel memory foam over the folded seats erases the seams and the gap where the seatbacks meet the trunk floor, and it insulates you from the cold floor in a way air cannot. It rolls or folds for storage, never needs a pump, and lasts years. We cut it from the same CertiPUR-US gel memory foam and Oeko-Tex Talalay latex we use in our RV toppers, poured in Phoenix and sold factory direct.

Model Y: fit and what to order

With the 60/40 rear seats folded, the Model Y gives you a nearly flat platform from the front seatbacks to the liftgate. Owner measurements cluster around 75 to 77 inches of usable length with the front seats in a normal position, and up to about 83 inches with both front seats slid all the way forward and tilted. Width is about 50 inches at the widest point and about 41 inches between the rear wheel wells. Headroom from the cargo floor to the glass runs 30 to 34 inches, enough to sit up slouched.

The folded seatbacks sit a touch higher than the trunk floor and there is a small gap at the hinge. Three inches of foam lays over both without any filler. The 2025 Juniper refresh kept the cargo floor essentially the same size; the 7-seat Model Y sleeps the same once the third row is folded, but the second-row seam is a little further forward. Measure your own car with the seats where you will leave them and send the numbers with your quote.

Our standard Model Y recommendation is 48 to 50 inches wide by 75 inches long, 3 inches thick, cut as two pieces of roughly 37.5 inches each. Two 48 x 37.5 pieces stack in the trunk well under the cargo floor with the seats up, or lie flat across the back seat. If you sleep alone and want the mattress to sit between the wheel wells with no overhang, go 40 x 75 in one piece.

A 4-inch mattress is more comfortable on the hard floor but takes the trunk well and then some. A 2-inch Talalay latex piece rolls tight enough to go in the frunk. If you want a full stock mattress, the LOUNJ RV Mattress in the 35 x 79 bunk size is an 8-inch gel memory foam bed that fits lengthwise between the wheel wells for one person.

Order the width to the wheel-well measurement if you want the mattress to sit flat on the floor, or to the wider measurement if you want it to rest on top of the wells with a slight bridge.

Model 3: fit and what to order

Fold the 60/40 rear seats and you get a platform that runs from the front seatbacks through the pass-through into the trunk. Owner measurements put usable length at 72 to 76 inches with the front seats moved forward. Width is 42 to 50 inches across the folded seats, narrowing to about 37 to 40 inches between the wheel wells in the trunk. Because the Model 3 has a trunk lid rather than a liftgate, headroom over the trunk portion is low, so your feet go in the trunk and your head and shoulders stay in the cabin.

The important detail is the step: the folded seatbacks sit a few inches above the trunk floor and do not lie perfectly flat. Air mattresses and tri-fold pads sag into that drop. A 3-inch foam piece over the seats and a matching piece in the trunk, or a single piece thick enough to bridge, gives you a level surface. The 2024 Highland refresh changed the seats but not the basic layout. Measure your car and send the numbers with your quote.

For one adult, our starting recommendation is 40 inches wide by 72 to 75 long, 3 inches thick, cut in two pieces: one for the cabin section and one for the trunk section, split at the step. A 38-wide trunk piece and a 44-wide cabin piece follow the car’s shape better than one rectangle. For two sleepers, go 48 wide in the cabin section and accept that feet share the narrower trunk.

To level the step, ask for the trunk piece an inch thicker than the cabin piece, or lay a folded blanket under the trunk piece. We cut from 1 to 4 inches in half-inch steps, so a 3-inch cabin piece with a 4-inch trunk piece is an easy custom order.

A 2-inch Talalay latex version rolls into a bundle that fits the trunk with the seats up, which is the best choice for a daily-driven Model 3 that only camps a few weekends a year. Stock alternative for a solo sleeper: the LOUNJ RV Mattress in the 28 x 75 bunk size, 8 inches of gel memory foam.

Model X: fit and what to order

In the 5-seat Model X the second-row bench folds flat. In the 7-seat, both the second-row bench and the third row fold flat. Either way you end up with a continuous floor from the front seatbacks to the liftgate. Owner measurements land around 80 to 88 inches of length with the front seats forward, about 50 inches of width across the folded seats and roughly 40 inches between the rear wheel wells, with 34 to 38 inches of headroom under the glass. That beats a Model Y in every direction.

Our recommendation is 48 x 80, 3 inches thick, cut in two 40-inch pieces so it stacks in the rear cargo area or the trunk well with the seats up. If you want a plusher bed and have the storage, 4 inches fits comfortably under the Model X roofline. Confirm the fold in your own car: older 5-seat cars had a different second-row mechanism than the 2021-and-later refresh, and a few configurations leave a small step at the seat hinge that 3 inches of foam covers.

The 6-seat X has two second-row captain’s chairs that slide and tilt but do not fold into the floor. Only the third row folds. That leaves you three options. First, fold the third row and use the rear section, about 40 to 48 inches long, for a child or a lounge. Second, slide the captain’s chairs fully forward and lay a narrower mattress from the folded third row up the center aisle between the chairs; the aisle is roughly 12 to 14 inches wide, so this is one adult sleeping partly diagonal with a custom T-shaped or tapered piece. Third, a cargo-width piece plus small inserts behind each chair.

None match a 5-seat floor, but custom foam beats the inflatable sectionals sold for the 6-seater. Send us a sketch with the cargo length, the aisle width and the distance from the folded third row to the front seatbacks, and we will quote a two- or three-piece set within 1 to 2 business days through the custom size page.

Cybertruck: fit and what to order

Owner tape measures put the bed floor at about 72.75 inches long with the tailgate closed and roughly 96 inches with the tailgate down. The floor is 51 inches wide between the wheel wells and opens up to about 66 inches above them. Under the closed tonneau, clearance runs from about 28 inches at the cab end down to about 20 inches at the tailgate, because the bed rails slope toward the back.

So the sleeping options are: tailgate up and tonneau closed, fully weather-sealed, on a 51 x 72 floor with 20 to 28 inches of headroom, which suits one adult under about 6 feet or two who do not mind a tight fit; or tailgate down with the tonneau open or the Basecamp tent up, on a 51 x 96 floor with as much headroom as the tent gives you. With the tailgate down, the mattress can rest a few inches onto the gate.

These are owner-measured figures; measure your own bed before ordering.

Tailgate down or tent up: our stock 3/4 Full Short 48 x 75 RV topper drops between the wheel wells with an inch and a half of slack on each side and three inches of tailgate under the foot end. It is in the grid above in 2, 3 or 4 inch and ships from stock. Two adults who want the full 51 inches, or a longer 80-inch bed on the open tailgate, go through a custom cut.

Tailgate up, tonneau closed: order a custom 50.5 x 72, 3 inches thick, or 2 inches if you are tall and need every inch of headroom at the tailgate end. We cut in half-inch steps.

For storage, ask for the mattress split into two pieces. A 3-inch memory foam mattress in two 36-inch halves stacks in the under-bed trunk or lies flat in the bed under the tonneau with gear on top. A 2-inch Talalay latex piece rolls up and fits the frunk. The 8-inch RV Mattress in 35 x 79 is a stock full-depth option for one person, tailgate down.

How we build a Tesla mattress

We do not stock a Tesla-specific SKU. Instead we cut each mattress to your measurements through the custom size quote, which comes back in 1 to 2 business days. That is deliberate: a 2021 Model Y with the front seats fully forward is a different platform than a 2025 Juniper with a child seat in front.

You choose gel memory foam (the most pressure relief, best on a hard cargo floor) or Talalay latex (cooler, more responsive, folds without creasing). You choose 2, 3 or 4 inches. And you choose whether it comes in one piece or two to three pieces so it fits in the under-floor trunk well, the frunk, or across the folded back seat while you drive. A cover is optional; many owners use a fitted sheet in a stock size.

If you would rather have a stock item, our RV Mattress in bunk sizes (28 x 75, 30 x 80, 35 x 79) is a full 8-inch mattress that fits lengthwise in a Model Y or Model X for one sleeper.

Measure before you order

Fold the rear seats, slide the front seats to where you will actually leave them overnight, and measure three things with a tape. Length from the back of the front seats to the inside of the closed liftgate or trunk lid. Width at the narrowest point between the rear wheel wells and at the widest point above them. Headroom from the cargo floor to the glass at the head end, so you can pick a thickness that still lets you sit up.

Note any step between the seatbacks and the trunk floor; on a Model 3 it is a couple of inches and on a Model Y the seats sit slightly higher than the floor. Foam 3 inches thick bridges either. Write the numbers down, round down to the nearest half inch, and send them with your quote request. Every custom Tesla mattress ships free by FedEx Ground in the lower 48, decompresses in 24 to 48 hours, and carries our 30-Night Happiness Guarantee.

Questions about tesla mattress topper

What is the best Tesla camping mattress?

For most owners it is a solid foam mattress cut to the folded cargo floor of their model: 3 inches of gel memory foam or Talalay latex bridges the seat seams, insulates from the cold floor, never leaks or needs a pump, and folds for storage. LOUNJ cuts them to your measurements for the Model Y, Model 3, Model X and Cybertruck.

Does LOUNJ make a Tesla-specific mattress?

We do not stock a Tesla-branded SKU. We cut a custom gel memory foam or Talalay latex mattress to your car's measurements through the custom size quote, with an answer in 1 to 2 business days. That way a 2021 Model Y and a 2025 Juniper each get a mattress that actually fits, instead of one generic shape.

What size mattress fits a Tesla Model Y?

About 50 inches wide by 75 to 77 inches long with the rear seats folded and the front seats in a normal position, up to 83 long with the front seats fully forward. The floor is about 41 inches wide between the wheel wells. A Tesla Model Y mattress of 48 to 50 x 75 covers the platform for two adults.

What size mattress fits a Tesla Model 3?

With the rear seats folded and the front seats forward, the Model 3 gives roughly 72 to 76 inches of length, 42 to 50 inches of width across the seats, and 37 to 40 inches between the trunk wheel wells. A Tesla Model 3 mattress of about 40 x 72 to 75 in two pieces fits one adult; 48 wide in the cabin section fits two.

What size mattress fits a Tesla Model X?

In a 5-seat or 7-seat Model X with the rear rows folded, the floor measures about 80 to 88 inches long and 50 inches wide, narrowing to roughly 40 inches between the wheel wells. A Tesla Model X mattress of 48 x 80 in two pieces fits two adults. The 6-seat car is different because the captain's chairs do not fold.

What size mattress fits in a Cybertruck bed?

The bed floor is about 72.75 inches long with the tailgate closed, about 96 inches with it down, and 51 inches wide between the wheel wells. A stock LOUNJ 48 x 75 topper fits with the tailgate down. For sleeping sealed under the tonneau, order a custom Cybertruck mattress at 50.5 x 72.

How thick should a Tesla mattress be?

Three inches is the sweet spot. It is enough foam to erase the seat seams and the step to the trunk floor while leaving 27 to 31 inches of headroom in a Model Y. Two inches is a lighter, more packable choice for a Model 3 or a single sleeper. Four inches is comfortable in a Model X but tight to store.

Where do I store a foam mattress in a Tesla while driving?

Ask for it split into two or three pieces. A 3-inch gel memory foam Model Y mattress in two halves stacks in the under-floor trunk well or lies flat across the folded seat. Two-inch latex rolls tightly enough for the frunk. One-piece mattresses ride flat in the trunk with the seats up.
