Short Queen Mattress Toppers, Cut to a True 60 x 75

A short queen mattress topper is the fastest fix for the thin, five-inch foam pad that came with your travel trailer or fifth wheel. We cut ours to a true 60 x 75 inches in our own Phoenix factory, so it fills the platform edge to edge without overhanging the walkway or bunching against the headboard wall.

Why a residential queen topper does not fit an RV queen

A residential queen is 60 x 80. Most RV queen platforms are 60 x 75, and the five inches you lose is exactly the space the manufacturer needed to keep a walkway open at the foot of the bed. Put an 80-inch topper on a 75-inch platform and it either curls up the headboard wall or hangs off the foot and slides toward the floor every time you roll over.

Our short queen mattress topper is cut to 60 x 75 from the start. No trimming with a bread knife, no folding the excess under. If your RV came with a 59 x 79 or 60 x 79 mattress (common in newer Grand Design, Keystone and Forest River floor plans), order the RV Queen 59 x 79 instead. Both sizes are in the grid above and on the RV mattress topper category page.

Which thickness for a short queen RV bed

Start by pressing your fist into the middle of your current RV mattress. If it bottoms out against the plywood, you need real depth, not a pad.

  • 2 inch: for a decent mattress that just needs a softer, cooler top layer. Adds very little height, so it is the safe pick if you have a low overhead cabinet or a bed that lifts on struts for storage.
  • 3 inch: our best seller for RVs. Enough gel memory foam to take pressure off hips and shoulders on a firm factory mattress without making the bed feel like a marshmallow.
  • 4 inch: for a worn-out or very thin (4 to 5 inch) OEM mattress you are not ready to replace, or for side sleepers over about 200 lb. Check clearance first; a 5-inch mattress plus 4 inches of topper is more than some slide-out bedrooms allow with the slide in.

If you want a sock-style cover with corner straps, choose the RV Mattress Topper 2.0 in 2 or 3 inch. The bare-foam RV Mattress Topper comes in all three thicknesses.

How to measure your RV bed before you order

Do not trust the brochure. Strip the sheets, pull the mattress, and measure the platform itself, wall to wall at the head and side to side at the widest point. Then measure the mattress. RV mattresses are often an inch or two smaller than the platform, and the topper should match the mattress.

Also check three clearances: the height under any overhead cabinet at the head of the bed, the gap between the mattress top and the bottom of the slide-out when it is retracted, and whether the bed has to lift for under-bed storage. A 60 x 75 short queen mattress topper adds 2 to 4 inches of height and about 12 to 25 lb of weight, both of which matter on a gas-strut bed lid.

Radius corners: many RV mattresses have one or two rounded corners at the foot. Our stock RV sizes are square-cornered and most owners simply let the corner overhang a half inch. If you need cut corners or an odd size like 58 x 74, use the custom size quote.

Gel memory foam that does not cook you in July

RV bedrooms sit under a thin roof and run hot. Our foam is open-cell and gel-infused, so it moves air and pulls heat away instead of trapping it like the dense, closed-cell memory foam in cheap toppers. It is poured and cut in Arizona, and we let it air out in the desert heat before we compress it, which is why ours arrives with far less of that chemical smell.

Every topper is CertiPUR-US certified, fiberglass free, and made without fire-retardant sprays. It ships compressed by FedEx Ground, free in the lower 48, and usually lands in 2 to 3 business days. Unroll it on the bed, give it 24 to 48 hours to fully decompress, and if it is not right for you within 30 nights, send it back at no cost.

Questions about short queen mattress topper

What size is a short queen mattress topper?

A short queen mattress topper is 60 inches wide by 75 inches long, five inches shorter than a standard residential queen (60 x 80). It is the most common bed size in travel trailers and fifth wheels. LOUNJ cuts every short queen topper to a true 60 x 75 in our Phoenix factory, in 2, 3 or 4 inch gel memory foam.

Can I just buy a regular queen topper and cut it down?

You can, but memory foam is hard to cut cleanly with household tools, and a wavy edge shows through your sheets. A factory-cut 60 x 75 short queen topper is a stock size for us and arrives square on all four sides, so there is no reason to trim one yourself.

Is a 3 inch or 4 inch short queen topper better for an RV?

Three inches is the right answer for most RV owners. It softens a firm factory mattress without adding so much height that cabinets or slide-outs become a problem. Go to 4 inches only if your current mattress is very thin (4 to 5 inches) or worn through, and you have at least 4 inches of clearance to spare.

Will a short queen topper stay put on an RV mattress?

Bare memory foam grips a fabric mattress cover well on its own and rarely shifts on a flat platform. If your bed lifts for storage or you drive with the bed made, choose the RV Mattress Topper 2.0, which comes with a washable cover and elastic corner straps that anchor it to a 6 to 16 inch mattress.

How long does the topper take to expand?

It ships rolled and vacuum-compressed. Unroll it on the bed and it will be usable within a few hours, but give it 24 to 48 hours to reach its full thickness and softness, especially if the RV is cold. Open a window or run the fan the first day to let any faint new-foam smell clear.

Does a short queen mattress topper come with a cover?

The standard RV Mattress Topper is bare foam in 2, 3 or 4 inch, which many people prefer because it stays cooler and fits under a fitted sheet. The RV Mattress Topper 2.0 adds a removable, washable cover with corner straps and is available in 2 or 3 inch.

What if my RV queen is 60 x 79 or has rounded corners?

Order the RV Queen 59 x 79 size for a 79 or 80 inch platform. Our stock sizes have square corners, and a rounded RV corner usually just overhangs by a half inch or so without any issue. If you want the corners cut to match, or need an in-between size, request a custom quote and we will reply within 1 to 2 business days.

Is there a warranty and a return period?

Yes. Every RV topper is covered by our 30-Night Happiness Guarantee, which means a full 30 nights to sleep on it and free returns with no restocking fee if it is not right. The foam also carries a 5-year warranty against sagging and defects.
