What memory foam does that other toppers do not
Memory foam is viscoelastic: it softens where your body is warm and heavy and stays firmer where it is not. Lie down and your shoulders and hips sink in while your waist, arms and legs stay at the surface. That is the contouring people describe, and it is why a memory foam mattress topper relieves pressure on the joints that touch the bed hardest. It also absorbs motion, so a partner turning over does not wake you.
Older memory foam had two well-known faults: it trapped heat and it recovered so slowly you felt stuck. Choosing a thickness: 2, 3 or 4 inches
Thickness decides how much the topper changes your bed.
- 2 inch takes the edge off a firm mattress and adds a contouring layer without changing the overall feel much. Right for back and stomach sleepers, bunk beds, sofa beds, air mattresses and hospital beds where height matters. See 2 inch toppers.
- 3 inch is the most popular. Enough foam for side sleepers to sink into and enough to smooth out a mattress that has gone flat, while still working on an adjustable base. See 3 inch toppers.
- 4 inch is the plushest surface we make and effectively a new comfort layer. For a very firm mattress, larger-framed sleepers, or anyone who wants to sink deep. Bare foam only. See 4 inch toppers.
If you are between two, go thicker for side sleepers and thinner for back sleepers. Check headboard, rail and fitted-sheet depth before adding 4 inches to a thick mattress.

Which memory foam mattress topper should I buy?
Start with how your mattress feels. Too hard: the 3 inch Gel Mattress Topper 2.0. Too soft or sagging: the Firm Mattress Topper. Back aches in the morning: the Tri-Zone. Side sleeper on a very firm bed: the 4 inch Gel Mattress Topper. All four use the same gel memory foam poured in our Phoenix factory.
Does a memory foam mattress topper sleep hot?
Traditional closed-cell memory foam did. LOUNJ foam is open-cell, so air moves through it, and gel-infused, so heat is drawn away from the surface. Most people find it noticeably cooler than older memory foam. If you sleep very hot, choose the Tri-Zone with its bamboo cover, or consider a Talalay latex topper instead.
Is 2, 3 or 4 inches better?
Three inches suits most people and is our best seller. Two inches is right when you want a modest change, or when height matters, as on a bunk, sofa bed or hospital bed. Four inches is for a very firm mattress, larger sleepers, or anyone who wants to sink deep, and is available in the bare Gel Mattress Topper.
What is the difference between the Gel Topper and the Gel Topper 2.0?
Same foam. The Gel Mattress Topper is bare foam in 2, 3 or 4 inches. The 2.0 adds a zippered washable cover and elastic corner straps that fit mattresses from 6 to 16 inches thick, in 2 or 3 inches. Choose the 2.0 for convenience and a bed that gets remade often; choose bare foam for the lowest price or the 4 inch depth.
Is LOUNJ memory foam safe?
Yes. It is CertiPUR-US certified, which means independent testing for low VOC emissions and freedom from ozone depleters, heavy metals, formaldehyde, regulated phthalates and PBDE, TDCPP and TCEP flame retardants. We also make it without fiberglass and without fire-retardant sprays. It is hypoallergenic and low odor.
How long does a memory foam mattress topper last?
That depends almost entirely on foam density, which is why we pour our own. LOUNJ toppers are covered by a 5-year warranty against defects, and with a cover and an occasional head-to-foot rotation they typically last well beyond that. Bargain low-density foam often develops a permanent impression within a year.
Will a memory foam topper work on an adjustable bed?
Yes. Two and three inch toppers bend with the base, and the 2.0 and Tri-Zone corner straps keep them in place when the head is raised. For a split king, order two Twin XL toppers so each side moves independently. Four inch toppers are better suited to flat beds.
